| C.U.Shah Commerce College was established as C.U.Shah Science and Commerce College in the year 1968-69 under the aegis of C.U.Ronak Foundation.C.U.Shah Commerce College came into existence as a separate and independent institute from 15th June, 1969. |

The college was initially guided by the able leadership of the donor Shri Chimanlal Ujamshi Shah, popularly known as Shri C.U.Shah and the Founder Managing Trustee Late Shri I.M.Nanavati, a versatile personality and a renowned lawyer by profession. In the pioneering years of the college, it produced bachelors with an aim to making them eligible for the job opportunities available to them those days. In the beginning, the college focused the business potentials of the undergraduates and trained them to adapt to the requirements of the market during early 70s up to 80s. At present, the college strives to meet the challenges of modern world under the guidance, support and leadership of Shri Sudhir I Nanavati, our Managing Trustee and an eminent lawyer of Gujarat High Court and the Supreme Court of India. He takes keen interest in the development of college keeping in mind the modern requirements of education. His guidance and inspiration have been our strength in running the college with enthusiasm and positivism. Our young and promising Trustee Shri Devang S Nanavati leads the institute with an example. It is a matter of great pride for our institute as he has recently been declared the Runner-up of the Lead India Contest conducted by the Times of India in 2007-08 at the national level. He provides youthful, dynamic and zealous leadership to our students and motivates our students by his qualities of leadership, governance, legal awareness and knowledge-oriented approach towards life.
C.U.Shah Commerce College is located at the mainstream of the city of Ahmedabad. The college is centrally situated on the Ashram Road which is the heart-throb of Ahmedabad. The college can boast of its surrounding as it has famous reputed institutes like Gujarat Vidyapeeth, the old Gujarat High Court, the All India Radio Station, the Income Tax office, the Statue of Gandhiji and many important business houses in its neighbourhood. Such a location of the college gives students easy access to reach our college from almost all parts of the city. The college has an adequate campus with a stage for gathering, separate NCC, NSS and CWDC office and parking facility. The campus has two buildings as our trust runs C.U.Shah Science College and C.U.Shah Science Higher Secondary School apart from our commerce college.
C.U.Shah Commerce College has more than twenty airy and well-ventilated class-rooms, well-maintained Computer Laboratory, comprehensive library, Reading Room, Ladies Room, Gymkhana Hall and Students’ Corner. The college library has more than 16000 books on various subjects like accountancy, statistics, management, literature, personality development, public speaking, interview-techniques, hobbies, general sciences, economics, commerce and trade, fun and entertainment. The library has about 24 magazines and 08 newspapers subscribed regularly. It has Database Catalogue for easy access to the titles. The library also has in-house reading facility for students as well as faculties who can refer to a rich collection of more than 400 Reference Books.
One of the mottos of our college is to provide educational facilities to students who need economic, academic and moral support. The college has Students Own Fund (SOF) scheme operative and functional for the last 25 years. Under this scheme, every year, total textbook sets are provided to financially needy students. We have provisions to give 120 such sets to F.Y.B.Com and 120 sets to S.Y.B.Com students; while 100 sets are given to T.Y.B.Com students for one academic year after which they are supposed to return the same with the college library. This scheme comes quite handy and useful to those students who, themselves, cannot afford to buy all the books prescribed on syllabi. Such needy students avail the benefit of SOF at our college throughout their three year study at our college.
At present we have around 1200 students graduating in Accountancy and/or Statistics as major subjects. Apart from these, Economics, Business Organization and Management, Commercial Communication and English Compulsory are taught as compulsory subjects. Accountancy, Statistics and Secretarial Practice are offered as Subsidiary subjects. The college strictly adheres to the policies, guidelines and rules and regulations of the Gujarat University, the Government of Gujarat and the University Grants Commission and maintains appropriate academic ambience at the college conducive to our values, moral and cultural ethics of learning and teaching. |
